Visiting Scholars

The Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management is proud to have the support of many of the leading scholars of the world in our industry. International colleagues are invited to address our students on key industry issues providing students with up to date knowledge and expert opinions and experiences in a range of fields.

Professor Felix Kolbeck

ASTHM was proud to have Visiting Professor Dr Felix Kolbeck from the Munich University of applied Sciences as a guest lecturer. Dr. Perry Hobson, the Director of THE-ICE highly recommended Dr. Felix’s contributions to the travel and tourism industry.

Dr. Felix was invited to Perth to conduct a seminar at the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management’s Perth campus and the topic was “A Comparative Study showcasing European and Australian Tourism”. The seminar was a real eye opener for both the students and staff members at the Australian School of Tourism and Hotel Management as the whole session was highly interactive and informative.

Professor Felix discussed the current developments happening in the European tourism industry taking into account that European leisure tourism industry is mainly dominated by large-scaled tourism groups such as FirstChoice, TUI, Thomas Cook and Kuoni as most of them have their own hotel capacities in the destinations or control huge quantities of beds by long-term contracts. He then compared this with what he saw in the Australian tourism industry.

Following the session, the students thanked Professor Felix for taking time off from his busy schedule to share some of the information with the ASTHM students. It is expected that with these kinds of sessions, the status of the ASTHM-SCU program will definitely reach a new milestone and students will gain knowledge well beyond
